In any case if you’re visiting our website for the first time or if you haven’t checked all of our background articles and don’t know what are dnd backgrounds then we highly recommend you to visit this official pageGet it now. Stay informed with the most recent articles daily. That being said let’s dive into the DnD 5E Hillsfar Merchant by first taking a moment and going over its description.

Before you become an adventurer, you’re one of the most successful merchant operating out Hillsfar, the city of trade. Your family probably has owned or managed different warehouses, organized caravans, managed storefronts, or owned a vessel. They also have different trade contacts throughout the entire Moonsea region and along the length of Sword Coast. So, probably, they shall import ore, uncut gems, untreated furs, or grain into the City of Trade, or they would export fine cloth, faceted gems, fine furs, or Dragon’s Breath, a brandy-like liquor. You have a life that has been largely abandoned for certain reasons, and you are now looking for adventure. But nevertheless, the particular training that you’ve been received then, and probably some of the contacts you made, serve you well as an adventurer.

  • Skill Proficiencies. Insight, Persuasion
  • Tool Proficiencies. Vehicles (land), and vehicles (water).
  • Equipment. A fine set of clothes, a signet ring, a letter of introduction from your family’s trading house, and a purse containing 25 gp.
  • Lifestyle. Wealthy

Feature: Factor

Even though, you’ve left the day-to-day life of a merchant behind, however your family has been assigned you the services of the loyal retainer from a specific business, a factor, husbanding agent, seafarer, caravan guard, or clerk. This person is one of the commoners who can perform mundane tasks such as making purchases, delivering mail, and running errands.

He or she will not support you, and they won’t follow you into dangerous areas (like dungeons). They also won’t leave if the area is often endangered or abused. In the event that he or she is killed, the family could assign another member to you within a few days.

Notification: This feature is a variant of the Noble Knight’s Retainers feature.

Alternate Feature: Trade Contact

Your family and you have trade contacts such as shopkeepers, caravan masters, sailors, artisans, farmers, etc. in the Moonsea region, and along the entire Sword Coast. You can only use these contacts once per game session when adventuring in any of those areas.  These contacts can be used to receive any type of information or to relay a message to anyone in the area, even though they may live far apart.

NoteThis feature is a variation of the Criminal Contact and Researcher features.
